Type a military time to get the 12-hour clock time, or the reverse. The chart lists every hour, and the calculator accepts minutes too.

Every hour, both ways
Minutes are the same in both systems, so only the hour changes: 1745 is 5:45 PM, 0715 is 7:15 AM. Some airlines and railways write the 24-hour clock with a colon, 17:45, which the converter also accepts.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I read military time?
Hours run 00 to 23 with no AM or PM. Up to 1200 it matches the clock: 0900 is 9:00 AM. After noon, subtract 12: 1730 is 5:30 PM, 2200 is 10:00 PM. Midnight is 0000 (some services write 2400 for the end of a day).
How do I convert PM times to military time?
Add 12 to the hour for 1 PM through 11 PM: 3:45 PM is 1545. 12 PM stays 1200 and 12 AM becomes 0000. Drop the colon and pad to four digits.
How is it spoken?
As four digits, hours then minutes: 0800 is 'zero eight hundred', 1730 is 'seventeen thirty', 0005 is 'zero zero zero five'. 'Hundred' replaces '00' on the hour.
Why do hospitals and time clocks use it?
No AM/PM ambiguity: a medication logged at 0300 cannot be confused with 1500. Time clocks store 24-hour time for the same reason, and the time card calculator on this site accepts either format.
Hours are simple subtraction, breaks are subtracted, decimals are minutes ÷ 60, and rounding follows the FLSA 7-minute rule where you switch it on. Overtime rules here are the federal and California defaults; your state, union contract or employer policy may differ, and pay figures are gross, before tax.
